Mary Rutan Hospital’s New Partnership Brings Renowned Hip Treatment to Logan County

Mary Rutan Hospital is pleased to announce a new orthopedic partnership with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. Beginning February 28th, Ohio State’s hip preservation specialists, Dr. Thomas Ellis, MD and Dr. John Ryan, MD, will begin seeing patients at Mary Rutan Hospital Orthopedics office at 2221 Timber Trail. This partnership offers convenient access to one of the most unique hip preservation treatment programs in the nation to Logan county and neighboring residents.

Dr. Ellis and the hip preservation team have been working closely with Kristy Wisner PT, DPT and physical therapists at the Mary Rutan Hospital Physical Rehabilitation Center since 2007. Dr. Ellis states, "My patients consistently rave about the care that they receive from the PT team. I would recommend them to anyone." Mandy Goble, President and CEO adds, “We are pleased to build on this long-standing relationship. Combining Ohio State expertise with Mary Rutan’s physical therapist and local board certified orthopaedic surgeons, Robert Anderson, MD and Thomas Franklin, MD.  This partnership provides greater access to the best quality hip care for young and active adults in our area.”

Dr. Ellis and Dr. Ryan bring extensive experience in hip arthroscopy for labral tears or femoroacetabular impingement, the Ganz periacetabular osteotomy for hip dysplasia, femoral osteotomies, hip replacement and treatment of chronic trochanteric bursitis and lateral snapping hip.

Thomas Ellis, MD, a board certified orthopaedic surgeon, is an associate professor in the Department of Orthopaedics for Ohio State’s College of Medicine. He came to Ohio State from Oregon Health Sciences University, where he was a faculty member from 1999-2007. Dr. Ellis’s practice is limited to hip pain in the young adult. John Ryan, MD received his medical degree from the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine and completed fellowships in Sports Medicine and Hip Preservation at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center.
